Hoops: 19 injured after collision of a minibus with a stationary train near the Channel Tunnel
A minibus carrying drivers hit a shuttle on a Eurotunnel loading dock on Thursday evening, 15 October. Nineteen people were injured, with no life-saving prognosis, according to the authorities. Two were transported in an emergency to Lille. An investigation must establish the circumstances of the accident. [S1] [S4] [S10]

A minibus hit a train station at the stop, Thursday 15 October 2026 in the evening, on the Eurotunnel terminal in Coquelles, near Calais. The report from the Préfecture du Pas-de-Calais states that 19 people were injured: the driver and his 18 passengers. No death or life expectancy was reported in late evening reports. [S1] [S4] [S10]
A collision on the loading dock
The vehicle was carrying drivers of heavy goods vehicles who were about to board a LeShuttle shuttle. According to the prefecture, quoted by franceinfo and BFMTV, he finished his race against a stationary train at the loading dock. The accident occurred on the facilities of the French terminal, not in the underwater part of the tunnel, despite the formulation of certain titles. [S3] [S4] [S10]
The first descriptions of the collision have evolved. A first account of La Voix du Nord evoked a minibus lying on the rails, then struck by a train. At the press briefing at 10:30 p.m. reported by BFMTV, Calais's sub-prefect, Agathe Cury, stated that the vehicle had not returned. The converging version of the reports citing the prefecture is that of a minibus which hit a train at a stop; the cause of the shock remains unknown. [S20] [S10] [S4]
Two people transported in emergency in Lille
The number of persons classified as an absolute emergency varied over the course of the reviews. Franceinfo and RTBF report an initial assessment of five people in this category. La Voix du Nord's updated report indicates that two wounded remained in absolute emergency at the end of the evening. This reassessment does not affect the overall record of 19 injured. [S4] [S5] [S20]
Two people were transported in an emergency to Lille. According to Agathe Cury, cited by BFMTV and franceinfo, the remaining 17 occupants were evacuated to nearby hospitals, including Calais and Boulogne-sur-Mer. The absence of a committed life-saving prognosis announced by the authorities is therefore accompanied by hospital care for those affected. [S4] [S10]
In particular, the relief team mobilized 55 firefighters, the Samu and a Smur helicopter. Border police also intervened. Medical and psychological assistance was announced for the persons concerned. As the wounded were of different nationalities, consulates were notified, the sub-prefect said. [S1] [S4] [S10]
A limited interruption, Eurostar announces a service maintained
According to the sub-prefect, cited by BFMTV, passenger traffic at the terminal was suspended for an hour and a half to allow emergency response, while freight was not interrupted. This suspension should be distinguished from Eurostar traffic: the operator states in its service information that none of its trains is involved and that the incident has no impact on its connections from and to London. [S10] [S21]
Libération nevertheless mentions the abolition of the last two departures from Paris Gare du Nord and London St Pancras. This indication diverges from the maintenance of the service announced by Eurostar. The available elements do not allow these deletions to be linked to the collision; Therefore, they cannot be presented as an established consequence of the accident. [S12] [S21]
Responsibilities still to be established
The prosecution opened an investigation into involuntary injuries, reports BFMTV from a judicial source. The driver of the minibus, himself injured, must be tested as usual in this context. No results are reported. The media states that at this stage there is no evidence to suggest a criminal offence. [S10]
The initiation of the investigation does not constitute a conclusion on the liability of the driver or operator. The available information describes the shock, but does not yet explain the causes. For injured persons, the establishment of circumstances and possible responsibilities remains separate from immediate medical care. [S4] [S10]
