Associations and trade unions call to gather Monday, October 26, 2026 in Paris "and everywhere in France", after the racist attack on Friday in Trappes and La Verrière in the Yvelines. The Paris rendezvous is set at 7 pm, Place Stalingrad. The signatories want to support the victims and denounce what they describe as a "normalization of racist hatred". This appeal is reported in particular by CNews, BFMTV and Le Progrès, and confirmed by the press release of the League of Human Rights. [S1] [S2] [S3] [S33]
A national mobilization, local meetings still to be specified
Along with LDH, SOS Racism and Mrap include CGT, CFDT, FSU, Solidaires and Unsa, as well as Unef and FIDL. Gatherings are also planned in Saint-André-de-Cubzac, Bordeaux, Saint-Étienne, Nantes, Marseille, Grenoble, Montpellier and Roubaix. The articles consulted do not give the precise schedules and places of these local meetings: the Parisian timetable cannot therefore be applied to them. [S1] [S3] [S33]
Dominique Sopo, president of SOS Racism, defends the mobilization of society against racist acts and indicates that his association will also join rallies organized by mayors. Nathalie Tehio, President of the LDH, questions the extreme right and the action of the government. These political assessments are those of community leaders; they do not constitute judicial conclusions on the responsibilities in the attack. [S1] [S3]
A tribute to Pengo Bossio Wangi
On Sunday 25 October, several hundred people gathered in Aubervilliers, Seine-Saint-Denis, to pay tribute to Pengo Bossio Wangi. This 26-year-old French MMA fighter, of Congolese origin, was killed in the shootings. A white walk recalled the young man's place in the lives of his loved ones and sports circles. [S2] [S3]
The results reported by CNews, RFI and TF1 Info are one dead and five injured, including a 12-year-old child, after a burst of fire from a car in Trappes and then in La Verrière. A video publication by BFMTV mentions four injured, without explaining the discrepancy, while its article on rallies has five. This last assessment is the one that converges in the sources cited here. [S1] [S3] [S10] [S16] [S18]
According to Ouest-France, the mayor of La Verrière, Nicolas Dainville, said on Sunday that the child was getting better. However, this statement does not provide a detailed medical assessment of his or all of the injured. [S32]
The investigation continues despite the suspension of hearings
Kevin T., 39, is suspected of being the shooter. The investigation concerns an assassination and attempted assassination in connection with a terrorist enterprise, with an aggravating circumstance related to the true or supposed membership of the victims of an alleged race, ethnic group, nation or religion. Investigators are also looking at whether the suspect has been aided. Police custody of relatives is an investigative act, not a demonstration of their participation. [S18] [S31]
The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office announced on Sunday the suspension of the suspect's custody after a psychiatric examination conducted on Saturday night. Transferred to the psychiatric infirmary of the police prefecture, it must be observed for a period of 48 hours to determine whether its condition permits the resumption of the hearings. It is a medical transfer, not an announcement of a return to freedom. [S18] [S29]
Criminal responsibility remains a separate issue
Several media reports, based on a source close to the investigation, a diagnosis of schizophrenia and medical treatment. RTBF states that this diagnosis was not announced by the prosecution. However, it confirms the presence of cannabis and cocaine in the suspect's blood. Their precise role in the facts is not established by the available information. [S7] [S21]
The current ability to be questioned does not rule out responsibility at the time of firing. Article 122-1 of the Criminal Code distinguishes the abolition of discernment or control of acts of their alteration, which leaves the person liable. Therefore, a diagnosis alone is not sufficient to establish criminal irresponsibility. No such decision is announced in the sources cited concerning Kevin T. [S29] [S34]
Mr. Yassine Bouzrou, a lawyer with the family of Pengo Bossio Wangi, was surprised by the suspension of police custody. Without challenging the principle of psychiatric expertise, he calls for the same criteria and deadlines for assessment regardless of the ideological profile of the suspect. His accusation of a difference in treatment remains an unsubstantiated assessment in the articles cited by comparative data. For its part, the public prosecutor justifies the observation by the need to evaluate the possibility of continuing the hearings. [S12] [S29]
