At least 29 people were killed Monday, November 2, 2026 during Russian strikes in Komyshuvakha, Zaporijjia region, south-east Ukraine, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attack affected a humanitarian aid distribution location and shelter. RFI, La Libre and France 24 describe the same event, the results of which were recorded on Tuesday. Volodymyr Zelensky accuses Moscow of torpedoing "any progress towards peace". [S3] [S4] [S7]
An affected school and shelter
According to the Ukrainian President's account, the first bombs fell as people arrived to receive aid distributed every Monday. A new series of strikes would then have reached the shelter where people had taken refuge. La Libre specifies that the distribution was organized in a school. The communiqué issued on 3 November by the United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Ukraine, Matthias Schmale, also states that the school and a nearby shelter have been affected. [S4] [S7] [S9]
The United Nations reported the deaths of two rescue workers and four police officers who intervened after the first attack, as well as injuries among the relief teams. She indicated that the majority of victims were residents seeking help and local government employees. These elements shed light on the concrete consequences of the strikes: they reached people seeking essential products and then those who came to help. [S9]
The head of the local military administration, Mykhailo Semikine, claims that at least nine FAB-3000 guided bombs, three tons of equipment, were used, according to La Libre and France 24. This description of armaments remains attributed to the Ukrainian authorities; The documents consulted do not present independent expertise on debris or impacts. [S4] [S7]
A still provisional balance sheet
The figure of 26 deaths published by La Libre corresponds to a previous assessment, not another attack. RFI and France 24 specify that it was increased to 29 Tuesday. The Ukrainian UNN agency reports the same assessment, as well as five wounded and 48 missing persons, citing the regional official. Search and rescue operations continue. [S3] [S4] [S7] [S8]
The missing must not be added to the number of dead: their fate remains unknown. The UN, on the other hand, evokes nearly 50 people still wanted, who are likely to be trapped under the rubble. The consistency of publications reinforces the consistency of the available narrative, but does not constitute as many independent verifications: several information is based on the same official Ukrainian statements. Protecting and establishing responsibilities
Matthias Schmale condemns the strikes and recalls that civilians seeking help, like those who came to help them, must never be targeted. It stresses the obligation to respect and protect civilian facilities and humanitarian assistance under international humanitarian law. His statement stressed the situation of the people close to the front, who were already facing severe difficulties in meeting their basic needs and finding refuge. [S9]
However, the sources examined do not identify the persons who ordered or carried out the attack or reconstitute the chain of command. Nor do they provide a detailed Russian response to the Komyshuvakha site. Zelensky's accusation of Moscow's will to sabotage peace remains a political assessment attributed to the Ukrainian president, distinct from the establishment of individual responsibilities. Discussions announced despite strikes
US envoy Steve Witkoff announced "work negotiations" between Russia and Ukraine on November 10-11 in Abu Dhabi, under American mediation. According to La Libre, discussions should focus on post-war security, de-escalation and humanitarian efforts. This announcement does not constitute a ceasefire agreement. [S4] [S7]
Kyiv's mistrust is also part of the end of a local truce to evacuate Olechky in the neighbouring Kherson region. A Ukrainian official anonymously quoted by AFP claims that Moscow refused to extend it. When asked about the use of this break to regroup Russian forces, Dmitri Peskov replied that Ukrainian forces had done the same. This statement concerns the truce, not the strikes against the aid distribution. In Komyshuvakha, the documented emergency remains the search for the missing. [S3] [S4] [S8]
