Trappes and La Verrière: one dead and at least four injured, the counter-terrorism prosecutor seized
A man opened fire Friday, October 23, 2026 in several areas of Trappes and La Verrière, before being arrested in Coignières. A man fired in gusts from a car on Friday, 23 October 2026 at around 10.30 a.m. in Trappes and La Verrière, Yvelines. One person was killed and at least four others injured, including a 12-year-old. The 39-year-old suspect was arrested in Coignières and placed in police custody. Le Nouvel Obs, BFMTV and Ouest-France report the same series of shootings in these neighbouring communes. Victims in several places of daily life
The shots hit several areas, not a single location. According to statements by the Mayor of Trappes, Ali Rabeh, reported by BFMTV, a health home, vehicles and a playground were targeted. The chain also places fire near a gas station and, in La Verrière, near a pharmacy and rue Marcel-Rivière. These elements do not yet make it possible to reconstruct with certainty the order of travel. [S6]
The deceased man was 26, according to BFMTV. In La Verrière, a 12-year-old child was seriously injured and transported to Necker Hospital in Paris. The mayor of the commune, Nicolas Dainville, said his condition would have stabilized. Two other victims were working to maintain a school, he said in West France. CNews distinguishes a figure of ten injured from a police source from the official record of four injured. There is nothing available to reconcile these counts. Home arrest and investigation
According to MP Laurent Mazaury, quoted by 20 Minutes, anti-criminal police officers blocked the suspect's vehicle in the parking lot of a shopping mall in Coignières. They took out their weapons without firing; Nor would the suspect have used his weapon against them. La dimension discriminatoire inscrite dans l’enquête
Le Pnat a ouvert une enquête de flagrance pour assassinat et tentatives d’assassinats en relation avec une entreprise terroriste. Pour ces deux qualifications, il retient une circonstance liée à l’appartenance vraie ou supposée des victimes à une prétendue race, une ethnie, une nation ou une religion déterminée. La dimension raciste ou discriminatoire appartient ainsi au cadre judiciaire de l’enquête : elle ne repose pas seulement sur les commentaires des élus. Le communiqué n’expose cependant pas les éléments précis qui fondent cette orientation. [S34]
L’enquête porte aussi sur la détention d’une arme de catégorie A et sur une association de malfaiteurs terroriste en vue de préparer des crimes contre les personnes. Les investigations sont confiées à la Sous-direction antiterroriste, chargée de la coordination, aux directions zonales de la police nationale et à la DGSI. Sur place, le ministre de l’Intérieur, Laurent Nuñez, a parlé d’un « crime terroriste ». Ali Rabeh a, pour sa part, qualifié l’attaque d’« attentat à connotation raciste, probablement islamophobe », après avoir initialement exprimé sa prudence sur le mobile. Un accompagnement annoncé pour les habitants
La municipalité de Trappes a annoncé une cellule d’aide psychologique. Pour les victimes, leurs proches et les témoins, cet accompagnement doit compléter les soins et la réponse judiciaire ; les informations disponibles n’en précisent pas les horaires ni le lieu d’accueil. Restent notamment à éclaircir l’évolution de l’état des blessés, la provenance de l’arme, les préparatifs et les motivations précises du suspect.
